There are three very important things you need to know when you are diving to keep you safe:

A. How deep are you?
B. How long have you been down?
C. How much air do you have?

Depth gauge or computer

TIME:

Dive watch, Computer or Dive Timer

AIR:

 Contents gauge (by hose from first stage regulator) or Transmitter (from first stage to computer).

With these three vital pieces of information the trained diver can calculate dive times, decompression or safety stops by using tables or computers.

It is always advisable to have alternative back-up systems, although dive computers can do the whole job for you.
